Welcome to the new Websites at Work information bulletin. In response to your comments we have changed our newsletter into an information bulletin. We are now focusing less on general news and events and more on keeping you up to date with developments that affect you directly. Rather than a monthly schedule we will send bulletins as needed. There have been a number of upgrades to the Websites at Work content management system over the last couple of weeks so now is a good time for our first new bulletin.
We’d love to hear what you think of the new format – please feel free to contact any of the Websites at Work staff or simply reply to this bulletin.
We hope you had a wonderful holiday season and we’re looking forward to a busy and exciting year as the importance of the Internet continues to grow.
Regards,
The Websites at Work team
Michelle, Kenny, Gillian, Fiona, Jeremy and Craig

RECENT UPGRADES
Content management system – major upgrade coming soon
We are currently working on a major upgrade of our content management system. The new system will feature a streamlined interface that will be easier to use and quicker to learn. The most common tasks will require fewer clicks to carry out, speeding up your work. The attached image shows a screen shot of roughly how the new system will look. Now is the time to let us know if there is a feature you want or something you dislike about the current system so we can factor this into our upgrade.
Meta-tags
A function has been added to allow you to set and update meta-tags. Meta-tags contain keywords, website title and website description. Tuning your meta- tags is one way to improve the search engine ranking of your website. Also, some search engines use the meta-tag title and description, rather than text from within the page. Please email us if you would like this function activated for your website.
Website visitor statistics
We have upgraded our website visitor statistics pages. The upgrade looks much nicer and has better quality graphs. More importantly, there are a number of new reports such as “visitors click stream” which shows the exact path through your website for individual visitors. Search engine analysis is improved, with better reporting and detection of all search engines. Please note that reports are only retained for 12 months unless you request a special arrangement to hold them longer. If you have questions which are not answered please contact us to discuss advanced analysis options.
Website styles
Previously referred to as templates, we have made our website styles more flexible and are continuously adding new styles. If you’re ready for an image refresh just contact us to discuss whether a change in style or smaller fine tuning is what you need. The Websites at Work style, with highlights panel on the right hand side, remains by far the most popular.
New page creation
To streamline new page creation, the order in which they appear on the navigation links is now set automatically. New sections go to the bottom of the list, new sub-sections and paragraphs go at the top. The display order can then be changed if necessary.

TIPS
TIP 16: To edit images in your website content simply click on the image and then use the image editing tool which should appear. If the tool does not appear you may be using an old version of Internet Explorer – our customers can contact us and we’ll send the latest version on CD.
TIP 17: Beware of pasting images into your pages which are too large – these will slow page loading and you will lose visitors. In your image editing software set the size of the image to the size you need on the screen. Then save as a jpeg using medium compression – this usually gives best results. The free image optimiser at http://www.spinwave.com/crunchers.html also gives good results. If you need more help then of course call us.
