Welcome to the Websites at Work information bulletin - Weaving the Web - keeping you up to date with what's new and what's news at Websites at Work and the wider Internet
We're excited to be releasing a really useful upgrade to our content management system this month. A new navigation interface will greatly streamline editing your website content and so far feedback from our initial testers has been very positive.
We're also welcoming a new member of the team. For those who haven't met him yet, Col brings more than 20 years experience in developing Internet applications and managing IT projects. We are sure you will find him to be extremely capable and a pleasure to work with.
Regards,
The Websites at Work team
Michelle, Kenny, Gillian, Fiona, Jeremy, Col and Craig

RECENT UPGRADES

Content management system new interface
We're sure you'll be as excited as we are about the new content management interface which we think will be much easier to use and will reduce the time taken for you to update your web pages. The streamlined interface is based on adding a new panel on the left hand side. This panel shows a "tree view" of your website's pages. As in Windows you can click on the item to select it and to show the pages which are linked to it. You can expand or compress the view using the + and -. Double clicking on a page brings it up on the main page for you to edit.
All other functions still work as previously from the main menus or the links on the main window. If the new approach is a popular as we expect, we will soon move other functions from their current places on the main screen (for example adding and deleting pages) to the tree view panel.
The tree view will be the default display for most users. You will go back to the normal view for special functions - to get back to the tree view choose "pages" on the "content" menu.
Please let us know what you think. We plan to make some further improvements soon but first we want to hear what you think once you've seen it and used it.

TIPS
TIP: You can make the tree view wider or narrower by dragging the border between it and the main panel.
TIP: Make sure you click "Update Record" to save your changes before you use the tree view to move to another page.
TIP: Remember to review your meta-tags frequently - these are keywords that make it easier for search engines to find your website. Metatags can easily be edited by selecting "metatags" from the "tools" menu.
MARKETING TIPS - from Creative thinking
www.creative-thinking.com.au
TIP: Keep your eyes on the goal. Most of us are in business to grow our business, so maximise every customer contact opportunity. On every piece of promotion, letter, business card, e-mail, memo, fax and invoice, always make sure you put your logo, business name, address, telephone, fax, e-mail address and web site. Dont be afraid to promote who you are, what you do and where to find you.
TIP: Promote benefits to your clients, not product features. Clients buy benefits NOT features. So think about how your product or service features will benefit them? Then make sure you use all these benefits when communicating with them.
FEATURED WEBSITES
Absolute conferences and events Pty Ltd.
http://www.abcon.biz/ does more than showcase Abcon's conference organising skills. The website enables Abcon to post information for conference attendees - effectively a webpage for each active conference. Even more critical, online registration forms allow participants to register, book and securely pay online, greatly streamlining this process for both the visitor and the conference organisers.
Crikey
http://www.crikey.com.au/ is a news website which aims to "take a long thin spike to the bloated egos of political, media and corporate Australia and to take clear black and white snap shots of the men and women who have their fingers in the till or who simply get paid too much for doing shoddy work." Humorous and cutting articles online and by email. Websites at Work have recently developed a new subscription, mailout and billing system for Crikey. Crikey can now manage their systems and distribute their news far more efficiently.
